Learning at St. Joseph’s
St. Joseph’s Health Centre (SJHC) is committed to excellence in education. It is our vision to be the best community teaching health centre in Canada, and supporting student education for a wide range of professions plays a prominent role in this vision. It is also one of our key strategic priorities to partner in educating the next generation of health professionals. We are pleased to be able to offer a wide variety of placements, in a range of clinical areas and specialties. We endeavor to make our students’ time at St. Joseph’s an outstanding learning opportunity.
The Placement Experience
Health professions students complete their registration and orientation using our online registration site. In addition to this, your preceptor or clinical instructor will complete an occupational health & safety checklist with you on your unit.
While on site, many students also have the opportunity to complete supplementary observation sessions. These may include observing members of the team who work in different professions, observing in a different unit/area of practice, or observing a specific procedure/surgery that is relevant to their learning goals. A number of ongoing education sessions that we run for employees are open to students. Our students also enjoy access to our library, Chapel, Multi-Faith room and Wellness Centre (gym) at the staff rate.
*Students are responsible for any costs associated with the onboarding process. Detailed information about onboarding requirements is provided to our academic partners as part of the placement process. If you have questions about onboarding requirements, please contact CorporateEd@stjoestoronto.ca
