The Art & Science of Cardiac Physical Examination

St. Joseph’s Health Centre – Sunnyside Lecture Hall A

This 2 day course is designed to update physicians and trainees on the Art and Science of Cardiac Physical Examination. It is a comprehensive course on bedside techniques. The program will feature discussions by experts in the field as well as group auscultation sessions and special sessions on precordial pulsations and jugular pulse contour analysis. An hour-long session will be dedicated each day to provide a clinical update on recent therapeutic advances in cardiovascular medicine. The goal of this course is to provide both primary care providers and internal medicine physicians with the information and skills required to apply the art and science of cardiac physical examination in diagnosing and treating patients in our community.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the normal and abnormal precordial pulsations.
  2. Examine jugular venous pressure/pulsations and heart sounds.
  3. Recognize and differentiate commonly encountered heart murmurs.


Details on credit eligibility will be announced closer to the date of the course. Certificates will be issued by the Department of Medical Education following confirmation of registration at the event and receipt of program evaluation materials.

All sessions for this activity will be held on Friday & Saturday in Sunnyside Lecture Hall A&B, second floor Sunnyside Wing at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, 30 The Queensway, Toronto, ON, M6R 1B5.


Registration must be completed online at Telephone, email or fax registration will not be accepted. Upon DMES’s receipt of your registration, you will receive an email confirmation. Please be sure to identify an email address that you check frequently as this will be used for essential information including registration confirmation and evaluation.


Attendees will have the opportunity to evaluate the program. An online evaluation survey will be emailed to the address provided to register for the program. Upon completion of the evaluation, an eCertificate will be mailed to the email address provided.
