Interprofessional Learning Opportunities
St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides interprofessional student placements on an annual basis. We are also pleased to offer structured clinical interprofessional learning opportunities as part of our collaboration with the University of Toronto and the Centre for Interprofessional Education (CIPE). Students are also welcome to attend any of the employee education events run on site.
Here are a couple of quotes from students who completed an IPE placement at St. Joseph’s:
- “The IPE placement changed my clinical practice because now I can recognize and communicate patient needs to other health care members to work together to optimize patient health.“
- “I feel more confident in referring patients to more appropriate Health Care Practitioners and interacting with other members of the team.“
Student Feedback Helps us Achieve Our Vision
St. Joseph’s Health Centre places a high value on the feedback we receive from our students. At the completion of all student placements, a follow-up survey is distributed via email. Thank you to all of our students who complete this survey and help us to work toward being ‘Canada’s Best Community Teaching Health Centre.’
We are pleased to share some of the positive feedback we have received from our students in 2015:
“I was very pleased to see the wonderful culture St. Joe’s has implemented for the education and support of students and therefore hope to continue to be part of this movement”
“My placement at St. Joseph’s ICU exceeded my expectations and I am glad it happened that way. It was great having you as support in the unit and Vince as a preceptor… I would like to thank you, Vince, staff nurses, the healthcare team and support personnel for this rich experience in St. Joe’s ICU.”
“… We had a very educational and productive semester on 3M. My students learned so much, and I feel that they grew so much personally and professionally. We really enjoyed our time here. The staff is so welcoming and helpful. They really made us feel at home. They took time to welcome us, and they allowed us the time to adjust to the new unit. Always with a smile on their face answered our questions, and made us feel part of the team. This team is truly amazing… It was a great pleasure working with everyone.”
