Academic Achievement Day (AAD) is about celebrating our culture of teaching and learning at St. Joe’s. As a vibrant community teaching hospital, we welcome a large group of interprofessional students and medical learners each year. Every day our staff, volunteers, and physicians are engaged in teaching, mentoring, guiding, and inspiring learners across the health centre to realize their potential. AAD is an opportunity to celebrate our clinical educators and thank them for their contributions in advancing the health of our community by becoming Canada’s best community teaching hospital.

The Interprofessional Education Teaching Award was established to recognize a person or team who advances interprofessional education by preparing students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for collaborative interprofessional teamwork. This person/team supports different professions in learning with, from, and about each other to improve collaboration and quality of care. They model the 6 core competencies for interprofessional care which are: patient & family centered care, communication, role clarity, conflict resolution, team functioning and collaborative leadership.

They model St. Joseph’s strategic priorities which are: creating seamless transitions of care, delivering an exceptional experience, and shaping care through teaching and education.

The Excellence in Patient Education Award was established to recognize a person or team who delivers an exceptional experience by facilitating patient and family centered health education. This person/team facilitates patient and family health education when partnering with patients and families to meet their health needs. Patient and Family health education may happen in both formal and informal education settings. They model the four core competencies for facilitating patient and family centered learning.
