The paediatric department at St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides comprehensive care for infants, children and adolescents living in Toronto’s west end communities. Our interprofessional care team supports some of our youngest patients and their families with compassionate care because we know that a hospital environment can be scary and overwhelming when you are not feeling well.
Our paediatric inpatient services include a 14-bed unit that is located adjacent to our paediatric six-bed surgical day care unit and Level IIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We offer a wide range of outpatient services in our specialized Paediatric Consultation Clinic, as well as walk-in services through our CIBC Just for Kids Clinic.
We’ve launched an online same-day booking tool called UnityConnect to reduce your on-site waiting time. Visit the clinic page to hold your spot now.
The JFK clinic has expanded hours on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 2 to 4:45 p.m. The clinic closes from 1 to 2 p.m. for lunch. Weekend and holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
We request that all babies (younger than 2 months old) arrive between 10 a.m. and noon.
We would like to reassure you that we have increased our capacity to accommodate our patients – to promote minimal wait times along with continued physical distancing and infection control protocols.
Our clinic is staff by paediatricians who provide services to patients whose doctors may be away or unavailable. If patients require further clinical services, our clinic can access diagnostic imaging services, laboratory services and therapeutic services within the Health Centre.

The Level IIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is located on the first floor of the Our Lady of Mercy (OLM) wing. This specialized unit provides care to newborns requiring intensive care and supports short-term ventilation of preterm infants 32 weeks gestation or more.
Our NICU is located on the same floor as our Family Birthing Centre for fast, coordinated care when needed.
The NICU has a 24-hour family lounge giving our patients and their loved ones a comfortable space for visits during their stay with us. We also have a lactation consultant available to support breastfeeding mothers.
Our NICU has physical capacity for 20 isolettes and includes a care team of neonatologists, paediatricians, neonatal registered nurses, social workers, registered dietitians, registered respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, a lactation consultant, housekeepers and unit clerks.
Our paediatric inpatient unit provides safe, compassionate care to children from infancy to their 18th birthday. Children are admitted to the inpatient unit through the hospital’s Emergency Department, the CIBC Just for Kids Clinic, retro-transfers from the Hospital for Sick children and from paediatric offices in the community.
Our 14-bed unit is located on the third floor of the Our Lady of Mercy wing. For more information or to inquire about a family member who is staying on the paediatric ward, please call us at 416-530-6000 ext. 6198.
We offer families a child-friendly environment because we know staying in a hospital overnight can be stressful for children. That’s why parents are strongly encouraged to stay with their child to ensure their comfort and help to decrease their anxiety. Rooms are equipped with fold-out beds for a parent or caregiver to stay overnight.
Our interprofessional team on the unit includes paediatricians, paediatric registered nurses, registered dietitians, pharmacists, social workers, registered respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, unit clerks and housekeepers.
Our team works hard to make sure procedures and treatments are provided in ways that focus on developmentally-appropriate pain management strategies and are inclusive of families and their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
The inpatient unit is located adjacent to a paediatric six-bed surgical day care (SDC) unit. This program provides elective surgeries to children from one year of age up to their 18th birthday. A surgical pre-admission tour is available to all children coming for a surgical day care procedure.
Children and adolescents in our community have access to a wide range of outpatient services at St. Joe’s. From the Asthma Clinic with its team of professionals ready to work closely with your family to the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic, the Paediatric Consultation Clinic is supporting new and better ways to serve the children and families in our area.
We are proud to provide services that put the needs of the patient and family first, starting with a friendly welcome from our receptionist who will register you and offer you a seat in our child-friendly reception room.
Our Paediatric Consultation Clinic is located on the third floor of the Our Lady of Mercy wing and most appointments require a physician referral. Please call 416-530-6625 for more information.
