It’s official – welcome to our new health network!

We are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has approved the three hospitals’ integration proposal, which officially unites Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital under one corporate entity as of August 1, 2017.

This represents the culmination of a months’ long process that began when the leaders of the three organizations agreed to explore a voluntary integration, with the goal of enabling us to provide better and more accessible local health care for all under the umbrella of a single health network.

“This is an important and exciting milestone for each of our organizations and the people we care for as we work towards our vision of advancing the health of our patients and our urban communities,” said Tom Woods, chair of the inaugural Board of Directors of the new health network.

The integration means that our combined 10,000 staff members are now officially employees of the new health network. United, the three organizations are better positioned to serve our patients, residents and clients across the full spectrum of care, spanning primary care, secondary community care, tertiary and quaternary care services to post-acute through rehabilitation, palliative care and long-term care, while investing in world-class research and education.

“Each of our hospitals has a long and proud history of providing excellent and compassionate care to all, particularly those who experience marginalization or disadvantage. Our new health network presents an opportunity for us to reinvest in patient care as well as help patients and their families obtain better access to higher quality, integrated care,” said Dr. Robert Howard, interim president and CEO.

The three organizations will continue the process of streamlining our back-office operations across the three sites and sharing our expertise and resources, in order to carry on our work as a single organization in the most effective way.
